Sunglasses...on the DL. Soooooo Gooooood

I have recently discovered a treasure trove of amazing retro sunglasses. I realize that everyone has been rocking the same Ray-Ban Wayfarers all year long. Alright, I have to admit I like them, yes they are as timeless as the day they came out in 1952. But hopefully the people at 'Giant Vintage' will help create a little more diversity in the retro sunglasses game without breaking the bank. Every spring people scower upscale stores to independent vintage shops to find a unique and somewhat trendy pair of sunglasses, unfortunately this can be time consuming and quite costly. My theory on 500$ sunglasses are that I don't want to wear the same sunglasses as some other yuppy douche who has a faux hawk or some aging hipster from the financial sector who thinks a Porsche, a pair of sunglasses and a platinum card will help him get over his mid-life crisis. I also hate loosing expensive sunglasses and this is why I am sooooooo happy with 'Giant Vintage' out of West Hollywood. They have an amazingly huge selection of incredible sunglasses and they are all extremely reasonable in price. Check it out, you won't be disappointed. All sunglasses range from 16-30$.

The Essence of DTI - John Paulson (The 3 billion dollar man)

I am writing about a man who paid himself one of the largest salaries in history. The reason for this post is because of it's shocking correlations to the DTI philosophy. Gordon Gecko and many of those wanna be financial hipsters in their 20's and 30's could take a page out of John Paulsons book. Ranked as America's 165th richest man, (according to the assets that we know of...) John Paulson is the President of one of America's most successful Hedge Funds, Paulson & Co., Inc. Paulson does one thing very well, he makes wealthy people even wealthier. There's an epidemic in the world where the middle class is getting smaller and all that money has to go somewhere. Paulson is helping create rich people into super rich people, after all what would some middle class schmuck do with 30 or 40 million dollars. Probably buy himself a new Ford F150 (which isn't DTI). Paulson is leading by example, in the past year after the sub prime mortgage fiasco, Paulson was able to predict this crash (along with many other Hedge Fund Managers...not difficult it was kind of a no brainer) The only difference is that when thousands of Americans were loosing their homes and European banks were freaking out over massive losses, Paulson paid himself between 3 and 4 billion dollars last year. Which according to the wall street journal is one of Wall Streets biggest pay outs of all time. Lets hope next year is even better and Paulson can top his DTI ways. I think it's amazing that people can do this, I agree he provides a wonderful service and makes people millions and billions, but everyone knows real wealth is judged on whether or not you could create your on 'A-Team'. Congrats to John Paulson, DTI man of the month.

Something's fishy

I might contend that 'So Me' the artist in charge of art direction at Ed Banger record label might have received a great deal of inspiration in the past few years from the art direction of the geniuses behind Lemon Jelly. Call me crazy, but it's there. The artist behind Lemon Jelly is none other then half of the duo itself, Fred Deakin. Amazing landscapes with undertones of the good ol' days when lighthouses still had a purpose before the creation of GPS. On a final note that has nothing to do with this art or music. I would like to hear a remix of Bill Joels 'We didn't start the fire'. If it can be done right, I think we can achieve 'Post neo-new wave, 80's infused awesomeness.' Which is difficult on its own. I know. I've tried. (Check out Lemon Jelly video recently posted, and you'll see the striking similarities) Everyone has their muses...

In 2007 Terry Richardson worked with Belvedere Vodka to create an extraordinary new marketing campaign. Those who enjoy the occasional sip of Wodka know that the market has become flooded with designer bottles and expensive campaigns to grab at your cash. After all, what the hell does Roberto Cavalli know about making Vodka. Cavalli gave a quote to describe his vodka, "it's like fire and water merged into a single element." What is this pompous designer talking about. Anyways, hats off to Terry Richardson for creating an amazing campaign. It's brilliant and sexy as hell. Little cameo in the clip. (Vincent Gallo) Ya, he's somewhat edgy, but his names gets him a lot further then any of the projects he's worked on. Vincent Gallo is a scenester, but im not gonna hate.

Extra..Extra...Cops bust COLD TEA!!!

On the weekend I followed two people around to 6 Chinese restaurants on Sunday morning at 5am. The way it normally goes is that you sit down and order some delicious after bar food and request a pot of cold tea..(actually filled with delicious beer). Unfortunately due to the rogue tactics of the Toronto Police Department this is no longer available. I'm not sure about you, but I don't want to live in a world where I can't order a fresh pot of cold tea (beer) at 5am. Earthquakes are bad, cyclones are horrible and illiteracy is a personal fight for me every waking moment of the day. The disappearance of after hours cold tea is a tragedy in our time.

Canada gives'er hard for Queen Victoria b-day...May 2-4

After a weekend of debauchery and driving all over on this rainy long weekend, I am tired. I'm also getting sick. I think their might be a correlation between the two. Well after a good long weekend, it can take time to get back up to full power. So to help fill the gaps (mainly the weekdays) Monday through Thursday is now filled with reflexion and contemplation. The music that encapsulates the essence of such deep thoughts runs the spectrum from Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, John Coltrane and Chuck Mangione the 70's-80's french horn god of the stage. My go to song for a rough morning was most often 'Dynamite Walls' by Haden. I have a new go to song. It is the one playing above. 'Young Shields' by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. "The musical style is characterized by the use of electronically produced beats, cheap keyboards, and slow, frank lyrics." (from Wikipedia) The keyboards awesome. His sound heavily influenced by New Wave and post punk sounds. Keep it oscillating.....
